So I am a big fan of the Sugg siblings, I love watching them on YouTube, seeing there Instagram pictures and finding them in magazines so when I see them both coming out with books I have to pick them up. Now I have done a review on Zoe’s first book Girl Online and I hope to have a review of the second book of the series up soon but this time it is all about Joe’s book or graphic novel called Username: Evie.
I love graphic novels and enjoy reading them because they are a quick read. This was was really cool to read because I haven’t read anything like this story line. Now one thing I wasn’t the biggest fan about was it seemed to go by a little to fast. I feel like it repeated itself a little bit and parts could have been taken out to make the story just a little bit longer. But then again a second graphic novel in this series comes out on Tuesday so hopefully it will be a little bit longer or follow the story a little bit more.
Now if you haven’t seen this graphic novel before this is what it is about:
Despite his failing health, Evie’s father comes close to creating such a virtual idyll. Passing away before it’s finished, he leaves her the key in the form of an app, and Evie finds herself transported to a world where the population is influenced by her personality. Everyone shines in her presence, until her devious cousin, Mallory, discovers the app… and the power to cause trouble in paradise. (summary from google books)
One of my favorite things about this book is that the main character was a girl. You don’t see many graphic novels with the lead character being a girl unless it is a superhero and Evie is not a superhero. Well she is in a simple kind of way but not a superhero per say. Just a normal girl helping people out.
It was fun because her dad had created this world for her, a place where she could get away
from the real world that made her so unhappy and she was seeing people in this
world that she had seen in the real world. But in this world they were nicer and friendlier than they were in the real world. She felt more at home and more safe in this world her father made then she ever did back home living with her aunt, uncle and cousin.
Now like every story there was a popular girl who happened to be Evie’s cousin Mallory, there was the cute jock Jasper and then the nerdy boy Lionel. I loved Lionel in both the real world and the graphic world so it was the normal nerdy boy you fall for instead of the jock and you hated the mean girl.
I loved this story and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next graphic novel and see what else Joe can come out with in the future.
